Rick Bauer

4/7/2006

The Texas Rangers demoted right-hander R.A. Dickey to Triple-A Oklahoma after a rough 2006 debut Thursday and recalled Bauer from the same affiliate to take his roster spot. Bauer was 1-0 with a 6.43 ERA in four spring training appearances for the Rangers. The 29-year-old right-hander did not pitch for Oklahoma in its season opener on Thursday night.

Bauer was designated for assignment on Saturday, in order to make room on the roster for reliever Tim Byrdak, whose contract was purchased from Triple-A Ottawa.

Bauer was sent down to Triple-A Ottawa on Wednesday, in order to make room for a backup catcher on the Baltimore roster. The 28-year-old righthander has been going up and down between the Orioles and the Triple-A affiliate since early in the 2002 season, and he heads to Ottawa after posting a 9.72 ERA in five relief appearances this spring.

Catcher Sal Fasano comes up to take Bauer's roster spot.
