Jose Acevedo

12/21/2005

Acevedo agreed to a minor league contract with the Rockies on Wednesday and will be invited to spring training. The right-hander was 2-4 with a 6.47 ERA in 36 games for Colorado last season after being acquired from Cincinnati in an April trade.

With two days off in their next 10-game span, the Rockies will switch to a four-man rotation temporarily, moving Acevedo to the bullpen. The righthander, who will pitch in long relief, is 2-3 with a 6.60 ERA in 23 appearances this season, including five starts.

Acevedo will be activated from the 15-day disabled list by the Colorado Rockies in time for their three-game series against the Nationals, which begins in Washington on Monday. The righthander, who has been sidelined since late May with a strained right groin, fills the roster spot of demoted lefty Bobby Seay.

Nursing a strained right groin, Acevedo has been placed on the 15-day disabled list by the Colorado Rockies. Matt Anderson, the top overall pick in the 1997 Draft, was recalled from Triple-A Colorado Springs to fill the void on the roster and in the bullpen.

Acevedo has been recalled from Triple-A Colorado Springs by the Colorado Rockies. The righthander, who was acquired from the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for fellow pitcher Allan Simpson just over a week ago, fills the roster spot of injured lefthander Bobby Seay.

Acevedo struggled in spring training, posting an 11.70 ERA. He'll pitch in long relief with the Rockies, but could be called upon to make a spot start or two, if needed. In 39 appearances with Cincinnati last season, including 27 starts, the righthander went 5-12 with a 5.94 ERA.
