Aaron Rowand

5/12/2006

Rowand went on the 15-day disabled list Friday, a day after breaking his nose running into an outfield wall to make a spectacular catch. The Phillies' center fielder ran face-first into the fence while making an over-the-shoulder catch of a deep fly by the Mets' Xavier Nady. Rowand broke his nose and sustained fractures around his left eye.

Rowand was traded Friday to Philadelphia in exchange for first baseman Jim Thome. News of the trade was leaked Wednesday, but the deal wasn't official until the players passed physicals. Philadelphia also acquired minor league LHP Daniel Haigwood and a player to be named. Reportedly the Phillies gave the White Sox $22 million as part of the deal.
