Prinz, battling a right shoulder strain that put him on the disabled list on April 11, threw from a mound for the second time since he was sidelined. Manager Mike Scioscia said the righthanded reliever could be headed to Arizona for extended spring training as early as the weekend.

Prinz, acquired by the Angels from the Yankees at the end of March, has beeen placed on the 15-day disabled list. The righthanded reliever has been bothered by what feels like a knot near his right shoulder blade. While no tests have revealed any major damage, the Angels couldn't afford to carry a pitcher who wouldn't be able to pitch for a few days.

Righthander Chris Bootcheck was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake to take Prinz' spot in the Angels' pen. Prinz expects to return by the end of April.
