Mike MacDougal

7/24/2006

The White Sox acquired MacDougal from the Kansas City Royals on Monday for minor league pitchers Tyler Lumsden and Daniel Cortes.

The Royals activated closer Mike MacDougal from the 60-day disabled list Thursday. The 29-year-old Kansas City right-hander has not pitched this season after straining his right shoulder during spring training. He was 21-for-25 in save situations last season.

Royals closer MacDougal will miss at least six weeks because of a strained terres major muscle under his right shoulder. He won't throw for four weeks.

When Jeremy Affeldt returns from the disabled list, MacDougal will remain as Kansas City's closer. On pitching coach Guy Hansen's recommendation, new Royals manager Buddy Bell will stick with MacDougal. The 28-year-old righthander has converted three of five save chances and posted a 4.57 ERA since Affeldt went on the DL, but he's been much better of late. In his last 10 games, he's 3-for-3 in saves with a 3.97 ERA, a 0.97 WHIP and 14 strikeouts in 11.1 innings.
