9/1/2005

On Wednesday, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays placed righthander Seth McClung on the bereavement list and recalled Beimel from Triple-A Durham. The lefthanded reliever had worked three scoreless innings for the Rays in July, and he didn't allow a run in two-thirds of an inning Wednesday against Boston. At Durham, Beimel was 1-2 with a 3.93 ERA in 48 relief appearances.

To make room for reliever Joe Borowski, who was signed earlier this week, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays optioned Beimel to Triple-A Durham. The 28-year-old lefthander didn't give up a run in two relief appearances for the Rays. Over three innings, he allowed two hits and a walk and struck out two.

On Sunday, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays placed righthander Doug Waechter on the 15-day disabled list and recalled Beimel from Triple-A Durham to take his place on the 25-man roster. The lefthanded reliever hasn't pitched in the majors since making three relief appearances for the Minnesota Twins last September. He allowed eight runs in 1.2 innings, good for a 43.20 ERA. The 28-year-old Beimel was 1-2 with a 4.06 ERA in 35 appearances at Durham this season.
