Hyzdu signed a minor league contract with the Texas Rangers. Between short stints with the San Diego Padres and Boston Red Sox, he was 7-for-36 (.194) with four RBIs.

In order to make room on the roster for Gabe Kapler, the Red Sox have designated Adam Hyzdu for assignment. Acquired from the San Diego Padres on July 19, Hyzdu appeared in five games with Boston, going hitless in six at-bats.

The San Diego Padres traded Hyzdu to the Boston Red Sox for righthander Scott Cassidy on Tuesday. Hyzdu was playing for the Padres' Triple-A Portland club when the trade went down. For Portland, the 33-year-old outfielder was batting .275 with 11 home runs, 32 RBI and an impressive .410 on-base percentage in 62 games. He went 3-for-20 (.150) with four RBI in 17 games with the Padres earlier in the year.

Needing to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for infielder Damian Jackson, the San Diego Padres have designated Hyzdu for assignment. The outfielder, who was acquired from the Boston Red Sox in March in exchange for righthanded pitcher Blaine Neal, is batting .150 with four RBI and a stolen base in 17 games this season (20 at-bats).

The Padres will have 10 days to trade Hyzdu, release him or send him outright to the minor leagues.
