Ross Gload

8/1/2005

To make room for an extra pitcher in the bullpen, the Chicago White Sox optioned Gload to Triple-A Charlotte on Sunday. The 29-year-old Gload was 3-for-23 (.130) with two RBI in 14 games with the White Sox. He had been on the disabled list from the end of April through mid-July with a shoulder injury.

Gload, who just came off the disabled list and was sent to the minors, was recalled by the White Sox on Friday. He gets the call with Frank Thomas going on the DL to rest his left foot. The 29-year-old Gload was a .363 hitter for Triple-A Charlotte, with eight homers and 20 RBI in 23 games, and he was 2-for-13 (.154) during an earlier stint with the White Sox.

On Monday, the Chicago White Sox activated Gload from the disabled list and optioned him to Triple-A Charlotte. The 29-year-old first baseman, who was placed on the DL on April 30 with left shoulder inflammation, hit .154 in seven games with the White Sox.

Gload was getting close to returning to the White Sox, but the outfielder-first baseman reinjured his left shoulder making a throw from first base to home while on his minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Charlotte. The injury isn't serious enough to be talking about surgery, but it's expected that Gload will need a couple more weeks to rest the injury and build up his shoulder again. He went on the disabled list on April 30.

The White Sox have put Gload on the 15-day disabled list with a sore shoulder. The first baseman has played in only seven games this season, batting just .154.

Chicago has recalled Pedro Lopez from Triple-A Charlotte to take Gload's roster spot.
