Kelly Wunsch

7/9/2005

Wunsch needs surgery on his right ankle and will miss the rest of the 2005 season. The left-hander, who was placed on the disabled list Friday, injured his ankle in a bullpen session on Thursday.

After spraining his right ankle on Thursday prior to entering the game against the Colorado Rockies, Wunsch will now undergo surgery to repair the ankle and will miss the remainder of the season. Wunsch was extremely effective against left-handed hitters, allowing them a batting average of only .194 against him.

Wunsch was about to be inserted into the Dodgers' lineup in Thursday's game against the Colorado Rockies, but he sprained his right ankle while making his final warmup toss and was taken to the clubhouse on a cart. The lefthander will be re-evaluated on Friday to determine the extent of the injury, but he'll likely miss the team's last three games before the All-Star break.
