As decided in the first salary arbitration case of the year, Kim will receive $600,000 next season as opposed to the $800,000 he had asked for from the Colorado Rockies. The 28-year-old right-hander went 6-3 with a 4.90 ERA in 10 starts and 14 relief appearances last season for the Nationals and the Rockies.

Kim pitched his first career shutout Saturday against the San Francisco Giants at Coors Field, a three-hit gem in which he walked one and struck out three.

Kim fared well in his first start of 2005, stepping in for the traded Tomo Ohka on Friday. Recalled on May 26, Kim worked five innings and allowed five hit and two runs in Washington's 9-3 Friday night victory over Seattle. In three appearances since his recall, the 27-year-old righthander is 1-0 with a 1.93 ERA in 9.1 innings.

Roughly two weeks after joining the Washington Nationals from Triple-A New Orleans, Kim will pick up a start. The 27-year-old righthander draws the Friday night assignment against Seattle, after the Nationals traded the scheduled starter, Tomo Ohka, to Milwaukee for second baseman Junior Spivey. In a pair of relief appearances since his recall, Kim is 1-0 without allowing a run. He has worked four innnings, giving up four hits and a walk while fanning four.

The Washington Nationals have purchased Kim's contract from Triple-A New Orleans, replacing the struggling Claudio Vargas on the roster. In nine starts with the minor league club this season, Kim went 4-2 with a 2.76 ERA.
