Michael Restovich

1/3/2006

The Chicago Cubs have signed Restovich to a minor league deal. The signing comes on the power prospect's 27th birthday. In 115 at-bats with Colorado and Pittsburgh in 2005, Restovich batted .235 with five doubles, three homers and eight RBIs.

The Pirates have removed Restovich from their 40-man roster. The outfielder, who came to the Pirates in a trade with Colorado in May, hit .235 with five home runs and 13 RBIs in 66 games with the Rockies and Pirates in 2005.

Restovich is moving on to his fourth different major league team since spring training, as the Colorado Rockies have traded him to the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for a player to be named later. The outfielder, who also spent time with the Los Angeles Dodgers and Tampa Bay Devil Rays, was designated for assignment earlier this week after batting .290 with one home run and three RBI in 14 games with the Rockies.

With Craig Wilson sidelined for at least six weeks with a finger injury, Restovich will supply the Pirates with some much-needed depth in the outfield. He will join the team in time for Friday's meeting with the Milwaukee Brewers.

Restovich, who was claimed off waivers from Tampa Bay early last month, has been designated for assignment by the Colorado Rockies. In 14 games, the outfielder batted .290 with one home run and three RBI. He will be replaced on the roster by relief pitcher David Cortes.

Restovich spent spring training with the Minnesota Twins, but was cut just prior to the start of the regular season before joining the Devil Rays. The Rockies will have 10 days to trade Restovich, release him or send him outright to the minor leagues.

The Colorado Rockies have claimed Restovich off waivers from Tampa Bay, as the outfielder heads to his third team in a week. He was let go by the Minnesota Twins during the closing days of spring training before joining the Devil Rays. He then was designated for assignment, opening a spot on the roster for veteran catcher Charles Johnson. He is expected to meet up with the Rockies on Friday in San Francisco.

The Rockies will need to make a corresponding move on Friday to make room for Restovich. With Dustan Mohr out for at least two weeks with a calf injury, Restovich could be asked to split time in right field with Brad Hawpe. He appeared in 61 games with Minnesota over the past three seasons, batting .274 with three homers and 11 RBI.

Restovich has been designated for assignment by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, opening a spot on the roster for veteran catcher Charles Johnson, who inked a one-year contract with the club on Monday. The outfielder was claimed off waivers from the Minnesota Twins last week and expected to serve as a backup this season.

The Devil Rays have 10 days to trade Restovich, released him or outright him to the minor leagues. He appeared in 61 games with Minnesota over the past three seasons, batting .274 with three homers and 11 RBI.
