Felipe Lopez

7/24/2006

Lopez went 2-for-5 Sunday, including a two-run single in the third inning, giving him three consecutive games with two hits.

Lopez swiped four bases Wednesday in Cincinnati's 9-6 victory over Washington. The Reds' shortstop went 2-for-3 with two walks, and his steals helped him score three runs in the win. For the season, Lopez has 15 steals and has been caught just once. He's batting .288 with a .357 on-base percentage in 34 games.

In what has become a breakout year, Lopez hit his 20th home run of 2005 on Tuesday night, a solo shot in Cincinnati's 4-3 loss to the Cubs. The Reds' shortstop has enjoyed his best summer in his fifth major league campaign. He's batting a career-high .279 with single-season bests in games (130), doubles (29), homers (20), RBI (70), on-base percentage (.333) and slugging (.471).

8/9/2005

Lopez' batting average has dipped to .279, the lowest it has been since early May. The Reds' shortstop has gone hitless in his last seven games, spanning 22 at-bats. In 75 games before the All-Star break, Lopez was batting .304 with 14 home runs, 48 RBI and six stolen bases, but since he has hit just .198 with two homers, seven RBI and five steals in 24 contests.

Lopez took a pitch off the left hand Sunday and left Cincinnati's 9-0 loss to Houston. The Reds' shortstop, selected to the National League All-Star team over the weekend, may miss a few games, but X-rays were negative and the injury doesn't appear to be serious. Lopez is batting .321 with 14 homers and 48 RBI on the season.

Lopez, who has taken over at shortstop for Cincinnati in recent weeks, has the longest active hitting streak in the National League at 13 games. The 25-year-old Lopez is 17-for-56 (.304) during his 13-game run, with four doubles, four homers, eight RBI and 12 runs scored.

5/27/2005

In Thursday's loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates, Lopez belted his second home run in as many days and extended his current hit streak to eight games. Over that span, the Reds' shortstop is batting 11-for-32 (.344) with two doubles, three home runs, six RBI and three stolen bases.

5/12/2005

Lopez' opportunity to play because of an injury to Rich Aurilia coincides with a hot spell. Lopez, who turns 25 on Wednesday, celebrates with a seven-game hitting streak in which he's batting .387 (12-for-31). During his streak, Lopez has collected five doubles, scored seven runs and driven in nine. For the season, he's a .328 hitter with four homers and 16 RBI in just 20 games.

5/11/2005

Lopez will take over as the Cincinnati Reds' starting shortstop for the next couple of weeks, as veteran Rich Aurilia has landed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained hamstring. The opportunity could not have come at a better time, as the infielder has been smoking the ball recently. In his last six games, Lopez is 11-for-27 (.407) with five doubles and seven RBI.

For the season, Lopez is batting .333 with three home runs and 14 RBI in 19 games. If you need a stopgap at middle infield, Lopez might be a good -- and available -- option, especially while he's hot.

4/27/2005

Lopez notched the first grand slam of his major league career, taking a Ryan Dempster pitch deep to right field in the third inning of Wednesday's loss to the Chicago Cubs. It was the only hit of the day for the Reds' infielder, who is batting .269 with two homers and six RBI in nine games this season.

Lopez won't be in the lineup on a daily basis, but he will fill in when one of the Reds' regular infielders needs a day off. He has limited fantasy value in deep leagues.
