After missing several days with a back aillment, Everett was back on the field Tuesday night for the Houston Astros. The shortstop was scratched from a spring training game last Thursday, returned to Houston for an anti-inflammatory injection and then sat a few days to recover. He showed no ill effects in Tuesday night's game against Atlanta.

Everett agreed to a $1.9 million, one-year contract with Houston on Monday, avoiding salary arbitration. The shortstop, known for his defensive ability, hit .248 with a career-high 11 homers and 54 RBIs last season. He started all 14 games during the Astros' run to the World Series.

Everett reached Pittsburgh in time to start for the Houston Astros on Tuesday night. He went 2-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI in his first two trips to the plate against Pirates rookie Tom Gorzelanny. The Astros' shortstop had missed four games while tending to a family health emergency.

Everett is expected to rejoin his Houston teammates in Pittsburgh Monday, after missing weekend action against Milwaukee because his daughter was facing surgery. Astros manager Phil Garner isn't certain whether his starting shortstop would arrive in time to start against the Pirates on Monday night.

Astros shortstop Adam Everett will miss this weekend's series against the Brewers while he returns to Georgia for his daughter's surgery. Everett is expected back Monday, when the team travels to Pittsburgh for a three-game series against the Pirates.

A strained left hamstring forced Everett to leave in the eighth inning of Thursday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers. Reportedly, the move was precautionary, as the injury is considered minor. Eric Bruntlett took over at shortstop in Everett's stead.

The Astros have listed Everett as day-to-day. He will be re-evaluated prior to Friday's meeting with the St. Louis Cardinals to determine his availability. In 15 games this season, Everett is batting .200 with one home run, five RBI and two stolen bases.
