Spivey and the St. Louis Cardinals agreed to a $1.2 million, one-year contract on Friday. The 30-year-old second baseman split last season between Milwaukee and Washington, batting a combined .232 with seven home runs and 24 RBIs in 259 at-bats.

The Washington Nationals put Spivey on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday, four days after the second baseman broke his right wrist while hitting off a tee before a game. He is expected to miss 8-12 weeks. In 72 games this season, Spivey is batting .232 with seven home runs and 24 RBI.

Spivey is expected to miss 8-12 weeks after breaking his right wrist in a freak accident before Saturday's game against the Phillies. The infielder said he heard something in his wrist pop while hitting off of the T. Spivey, acquired from Milwaukee in June, is hitting .232 with 7 home runs and 24 RBI.

Spivey, acquired from Milwaukee in June, is scheduled to undergo surgery on Monday, and he will be placed on the 15-day disabled list shortly thereafter.

On Friday, the Milwaukee Brewers dealt Spivey to the Washington Nationals for righthander Tomo Ohka. The 30-year-old second baseman, who was batting just .236 in 49 games for the Brewers, will take over as the Nationals' starting second baseman. The National League East leaders have been without starter Jose Vidro since early May.

Spivey came down with the flu prior to Sunday's meeting with the Cincinnati Reds and was sent home as a result. In his absence, Bill Hall got the nod at second base. The Brewers have listed Spivey as day-to-day and are optimistic that he will be ready for Tuesday's game against the Chicago Cubs.

Milwaukee is off on Monday. In 22 games this season, Spivey is batting .227 with three home runs, 10 RBI and a stolen base.
