Josh Paul

2/16/2006

Paul lost his salary arbitration case Thursday and will receive $475,000 from the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. The backup catcher had requested $750,000.

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim put Paul on the 15-day disabled list Friday with a sprained right thumb. The move is retroactive to August 8. A third catcher on the Angels' roster, Paul is 6-for-32 (.188) with four runs scored this season.

Paul, the Angels' backup catcher with starting catcher Bengie Molina out of action, suffered a bruised right thumb and left Wednesday's game in the sixth inning. He was struck on the thumb by a throw while running the bases. X-rays were not taken and he will be re-evaluated Thursday in Anaheim.

This doesn't sound serious, but the Angels don't have many options behind the plate with Molina already on the sidelines.
