Jim Brower

8/21/2005

Brower has been designated for assignment by the Atlanta Braves, opening a spot on the roster for Joey Devine, who made his major league debut in Saturday's meeting with the San Diego Padres. Picked up in June after being released by the San Francisco Giants, Brower made 28 relief appearances with the Braves, going 1-2 with a 3.57 ERA.

Brower will join the Atlanta bullpen in Cincinnati Thursday night. The 32-year-old righthander signed with the Braves on Wednesday after being released by San Francisco early in the week. He will take the roster spot vacated by Tim Hudson, who went on the disabled list with an oblique injury on Thursday.

Brower, released by the San Francisco Giants on Monday, agreed to terms with the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday for the rest of the season. The Braves will need some Leo Mazzone magic with Brower, who was 2-1 with a save for the Giants, but posted a 6.53 ERA and allowed 40 hits and 15 walks in 30.1 innings.

The San Francisco Giants released Brower after Sunday's loss to Cleveland. The news comes after Brower posted a 7.36 ERA in 15 May appearances, and he had a 7.36 mark in his first four outings this month. For the season, the 32-year-old righthander is 2-1 with a save and a 6.53 ERA over 30.1 innings.
