Adam Kennedy

6/7/2005

After going 2-for-4 in the Angels' win over Atlanta Monday, Kennedy has a six-game hitting streak in which he's 13-for-21 (.619) with three doubles, three RBI and six runs scored. He has two hits or more in each of his last five contests.

Kennedy has been in a zone at the plate recently, boosting his 2005 batting average by more than 60 points in the last week. The Angels' second baseman, who missed the first month of the season while rehabbing from October surgery to repair ACL and MCL tears in his right knee, is 9-for-13 with two doubles, three RBI, three walks and two stolen bases over his last four games.

Reportedly the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim will activate Kennedy from the disabled list before their Monday night showdown against the Mariners in Seattle. The second baseman has been rehabbing from October surgery to repair ACL and MCL tears in his right knee.

Chone Figgins has been playing second base with Kennedy on the sidelines, and he could shift over to share third base with rookie Dallas McPherson.

Kennedy was scheduled to begin his minor league rehab assignment at Triple-A Salt Lake on Saturday. Barring any setback, the infielder, who tore his ACL and MCL last September, is expected to rejoin the Angels in about two weeks.

Kennedy is doing well in extended spring training and is getting close to going out on a minor league rehab assignment. Coming back from major surgery on his right knee, the Angels' second baseman is on course to return to the Los Angeles lineup in early May.

Kennedy is scheduled to travel to Arizona next week to spend about 7-10 days at extended spring training. If no problems are reported, he will be sent on a minor league rehab assignment shortly thereafter. The Angels' second baseman underwent surgery last October to repair tears in the anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments in his right knee, injuries suffered while trying to make a play on a grounder in a game late in the regular season.

Kennedy hopes to be back with the Angels in early May. Until that time, the club plans to use utilityman Chone Figgins as their everyday second baseman. In 144 games last season, Kennedy batted .278 with 10 home runs, 48 RBI and 15 stolen bases.
