Doug Davis

6/29/2006

Davis will miss Thursday's scheduled start against the Chicago Cubs because of a stiff back. The Brewers' left-hander has allowed three earned runs or less in five straight starts, but has only one win in that span. "Since his last start, he locked up," Brewers manager Ned Yost said of Davis. "It's gotten better but not the point where he can make his start."

Despite giving up three runs, Davis scattered just five hits and went the distance in Sunday's victory over the Cincinnati Reds, notching the fifth complete game of his major league career. The Brewers' lefthander struck out eight and walked one to improve to 3-3 in six starts this season.

Davis walked 15 batters in his previous 20.2 innings, so he changed his delivery after his last start, cutting down on his lower-body rotation. The adjustment seems to have helped, as he had better control in Sunday's outing. In 34 starts last season, he went 12-12 with a 3.39 ERA, striking out 166 and walking 79 in 207 innings of work.
