Randy Wolf

6/22/2006

Wolf gave up six runs and six hits in 3 2-3 innings in a rehab start for Double-A Reading on Wednesday night. The 29-year-old Phillies left-hander had ligament replacement surgery on his throwing elbow last July 1 and hopes to return by the middle of next month.

Wolf expects to start a minor league rehabilitation assignment this week with Class-A Clearwater. The Philadelphia Phillies left-hander threw three scoreless innings in his second extended spring training start on Saturday. Wolf had elbow ligament replacement surgery last July. The Phillies hope to have him back on the team in a month. "Physically, I felt great," Wolf said..

Wolf, who underwent Tommy John surgery last July, began throwing and hopes to return to active duty by July 2006.

After getting opinions from three different doctors, Wolf has decided to undergo Tommy John surgery to repair the ligament damage in his ailing pitching elbow, a procedure that will sideline him for the next year. The Phillies' lefthander, who has been sidelined since June 11, is scheduled to go under the knife on July 1. Rookie Robinson Tejeda will remain in the Phillies' starting rotation in Wolf's stead.

An MRI exam on Tuesday revealed ligament damage in Wolf's left elbow, and the Phillies' southpaw may be a candidate for Tommy John surgery. The 28-year-old hurler will seek a second opinion when he visits Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Alabama, and Dr. Lewis Yocum in California later this week.

After losing four of his first six starts this season, Wolf appears to be getting back on track. The Phillies' lefthander allowed just six hits over 6.2 shutout innings in Tuesday's victory over the San Francisco Giants to win his fourth consecutive decision. Over that span, he has improved his season ERA from 6.00 to 4.57.
