Jones agreed to a $16 million, three-year deal with the Cubs on Tuesday night after he rejected salary arbitration from the Twins on Monday.Jones hit .249 with 23 homers and 73 RBIs for Minnesota last season. Jones expressed a desire to play for Cubs manager Dusty Baker.

The Minnesota Twins have decided not to put Jones on the 15-day disabled list -- at least for now -- after the right fielder took batting practice on Sunday. He has been battling a strained oblique muscle in his right side and had been unable to swing a bat without pain. If Jones hadn't shown any progress by Sunday, he was headed for the DL.
