Mike Matthews

4/26/2005

Matthews has been designated for assignment by the New York Mets after allowing three runs on four hits over two-thirds of an inning in Sunday's game against the Washington Nationals. The veteran lefthander, who signed a minor league deal with the Mets after spending the 2004 campaign in Cincinnati, is 1-0 with a 10.80 ERA in six appearances on the season.

To fill the void in the bullpen, the Mets have recalled Royce Ring from Triple-A Norfolk.
