Mark DeRosa

4/30/2006

DeRosa was activated from the 15-day disabled list Sunday by the Rangers, who optioned outfielder Adam Hyzdu to Triple-A Oklahoma. DeRosa has been sidelined since April 15 with a sprained left foot. He was hitless in two at-bats before being injured and sent to Oklahoma on a rehab assignment. In three games with the RedHawks, he went 6-for-12.

DeRosa, who was presented a chance to play because of Ian Kinsler's thumb injury, has been forced onto the disabled list with a high sprain in his left ankle that has bothered him for two weeks. DeRosa hasn't appeared in a game since Friday, and the DL move is retroactive to Saturday.

The Texas Rangers have purchased the minor league contract of DeRosa, adding him to the Opening Day roster. The utilityman spent last season with the Atlanta Braves, batting .239 with three home runs and 31 RBI in 118 games.

DeRosa has experience at all infield positions, as well as both corner-outfield spots. He will serve as a backup with the Rangers, with his primary spots being second or third.
