Adrian Beltre

6/21/2006

Beltre made his return to Dodger Stadium special, hitting a two-run homer in his first at-bat and matching his career high with four runs as Seattle beat Los Angeles 9-4 on Tuesday night. The third baseman, who signed a $64 million contract with Seattle before 2005, also had a double and two walks.

Beltre told The Seattle Times that his right hip flexor is not quite 100 percent, but the injury suffered in the World Baseball Classic wouldn't hinder him. The Mariners' third baseman asked to play against Oakland Monday night, after reporting back to camp earlier in the day, but the M's coaching staff asked him to work out on Monday and play on Tuesday.

The Seattle Post-Intelligencer is reporting that Beltre is battling a pulled right hip flexor. The Dominican coaching staff in the World Baseball Classic reportedly has informed the Mariners of the injury, which explains why he has been removed early in his last two WBC games.

Despite a bruised knee he suffered while sliding on Sunday, Beltre was back in the Seattle lineup Monday against the New York Yankees. The Mariners' third baseman took early batting practice and the regularly scheduled batting practice before going 0-for-3 with a walk in Seattle's 7-4 loss to New York.

Beltre was removed from Sunday's game in the fifth inning with an injured right knee and is considered day-to-day. He injured the knee diving back into first base to avoid being doubled up on a Greg Dobbs lineout. Beltre was 2-for-3 in the game before being replaced by pinch-runner Yuniesky Betancourt in the fifth.

8/18/2005

Beltre belted his sixth career grand slam as the Mariners sent the Kansas City Royals to their 18th consecutive loss, just three shy of the American League record 21 straight losses, set by the Baltimore Orioles at the start of the 1988 season.

6/20/2005

After resting a left hamstring tweak, Beltre played for the first time in a week on Sunday, going 2-for-4 and scoring two runs in Seattle's 11-4 romp over the New York Mets. He upped his average to .248 on the season, with five home runs and 30 RBI in 61 games.

6/18/2005

After missing games due to a mild strain of his left hamstring, Beltre is reported to be back in the Mariners' lineup on Sunday.

6/17/2005

Out with a mild strain of his left hamstring, Beltre could return to the Seattle lineup as soon as Saturday or Sunday. The Mariners' third baseman took throws at first base during pregame infield work Thursday, but he has yet to take grounders and won't try to run until Friday. He also hit the ball well during a Thursday batting practice session.

6/15/2005

Beltre may be out a few more days after straining his left hamstring on Sunday, but the Mariners' third baseman isn't expected to go on the disabled list. He is batting .244 with five homers and 30 RBI in 60 games for the Mariners.

6/14/2005

The Seattle Mariners should know a lot more about Beltre's injured left hamstring on Tuesday. The Mariners' third baseman has been out since straining the hammy on Sunday, and the team is awaiting word from an examination by Dr. Larry Pedegana. The Mariners fear a trip to the disabled list is in Beltre's immediate future.

Beltre was held out of the Mariners lineup on Tuesday due to his injured left hamstring. Beltre strained the muscle on Sunday in the team's loss to the Nationals. Although the team is not talking about putting Beltre on the disabled list, they are being cautious with him, and will keep him out until the slugger says he's ready to play again.

6/13/2005

Beltre left Seattle's loss to Washington Sunday after legging out a double in the third inning. He strained his left hamstring, the same hammy that cost him three games earlier in the season. Seattle manager Mike Hargrove expects his third baseman will be out at least a few games for this injury, which appears to be a bit more serious than his previous strain.

5/18/2005

Beltre left after five innings of Seattle's Tuesday night loss to the New York Yankees because of tightness in his left hamstring. The Mariners' third baseman limped to first base while running out a groundball in the fourth, then struggled to field a dribbler in the fifth by Gary Sheffield. At that point, Seattle manager Mike Hargrove decided to give Beltre the rest of the night off, and he may sit his third baseman on Wednesday, too.

Reportedly Beltre was upset about being pulled from the game. He said he frequently tweaks his hamstring, knows how to play through it and has done it every year in recent seasons. He wants to be in the lineup on Wednesday. Beltre has been hitting better over the last 10 days, which also may explain his reluctance to sit down. He's hitting .237 for the season, with four homers and 23 RBI in 39 games.

4/15/2005

According to Mariners manager Mike Hargrove, the back stiffness that forced Beltre to leave Thursday's game against the Kansas City Royals is minor, and the third baseman should be back in the lineup for Friday's meeting with the Chicago White Sox. Beltre left in the fourth inning and was replaced at the hot corner by Scott Spiezio.

It sounds like Beltre should be good to go on Friday, but he could get an extra day off as a precaution, especially if he feels any discomfort during batting practice. In nine games this season, he is batting .265 with one home run and eight RBI.

4/14/2005

Beltre left Seattle's afternoon contest against Kansas City with stiffness in his lower back. Scott Spiezio pinch-hit for Beltre during the Mariners' six-run fourth inning, and he replaced him in the field when the rally was over.

No word yet on the seriousness of the injury. Seattle has plenty of third-base options on the roster, including Spiezio, Justin Leone and Greg Dobbs.
