Javier Valentin

1/15/2006

The Cincinnati Reds have re-signed Valentin for 2006. The 30-year-old catcher batted .281 with 11 doubles, 14 homers and 50 RBIs in just 76 games last season. Reportedly Valentin will make $1.15 million in 2006.

Valentin belted another pair of home runs in Thursday's win over the Chicago Cubs, notching his second mulithomer performance in his last three games. The Reds' backup catcher has six hits in his last 10 at-bats, five of which have been home runs. He has 11 RBI over that span as well.

Valentin homered from both sides of the plate in Sunday's victory over the Colorado Rockies and finished the day with a career-high seven RBI. The Reds' catcher connected for a grand slam in the bottom of the sixth inning before adding a three-run shot in the eighth.
