Orlando Cabrera

7/2/2006

Cabrera had a double in the Angels' 4-0 victory on Sunday to extend his streak of reaching base safely to 59 straight games, the longest streak since 1960. He's reached base via a hit, a walk, or hit by a pitch in every game since April 24. The major league record is 84 games by Ted Williams.

Cabrera went 2-for-6 in the Angels' 6-4, 13-inning win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday to extend his streak of reaching base safely to 52 consecutive games.

The Los Angeles Angels activated Cabrera from the disabled list over the weekend, and the 30-year-old shortstop returned to action for Saturday's 5-4 loss to Minnesota. He went 3-for-4 with a double on Saturday. For the season, Cabrera is batting .251 with a .301 on-base percentage in 72 games.

Last week, Angels manager Mike Scioscia indicated that Cabrera was on pace to be activated from the 15-day disabled list shortly after the All-Star break. However, the shortstop continues to be bothered by discomfort in his elbow and an exact timetable for his return has not been set. Reportedly, the pain is caused by floating bone chips, and surgery might be the only option.

Angels manager Mike Scioscia indicated that Cabrera is still on pace to be activated from the 15-day disabled list shortly after the All-Star break, despite lingering discomfort in his right elbow. Reportedly, the shortstop had been considering surgery to remove floating bone chips from the joint, but now he'll only go under the knife if the problem gets worse.

According to Angels manager Mike Scioscia, Cabrera should be ready to be activated when eligible immediately after the All-Star break. The shortstop, who has been sidelined since late June with a strained right elbow, has resumed throwing without any major problems. He will be evaluated on a daily basis.

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim placed Cabrera on the 15-day disbled list Saturday with a strained right elbow following their 5-3 victory over the Kansas City Royals. The shortstop's swollen elbow has been a source of discomfort and fluid buildup for close to two weeks, and the move is retroactive to June 27. The Angels recalled Curtis Pride to replace Cabrera on the 25-man roster.

After returning to the Angels' lineup over the weekend, Cabrera sat out again Monday because his ailing right elbow flared up again. He will miss a few days, possibly more, after the elbow swelled. An MRI exam on Monday revealed a fluid buildup, but no structural damage.

6/24/2005

After missing three games this week with an inflamed right elbow, Cabrera is expected back in the Angels' lineup Friday night, when the team takes on the Dodgers in Anaheim. The Angels' shortstop is batting .249 with a .299 on-base percentage in 68 games this season.

6/22/2005

Although he should be available for pinch-hitting duties, Cabrera likely won't return to the Angels' starting lineup until at least Friday, according to manager Mike Scioscia. The shortstop has missed the team's last two games with a sore right elbow.

6/21/2005

Cabrera was on the bench for the Angels' 5-1 win over Texas Monday. The Angels' shortstop was scratched with a right elbow that was too sore to swing a bat or throw. He is day-to-day.

Cabrera homered leading off the bottom of the 10th inning to cap the Angels' rally from a 5-0 deficit in a 6-5 win over the Cleveland Indians on Thursday night. The Los Angeles shortstop hit a 3-1 pitch into the lower seats in the left-field corner against the Indians' Jason Davis.

Cabrera also enjoyed his second three-hit game in four nights. For the season, he is batting .271 with five doubles, two homers and seven RBI in 16 games.
