Kevin Millwood

7/10/2006

Millwood is scheduled to start Friday in Baltimore after straining his right biceps in his last outing. The Rangers' right-hander threw an extended bullpen session Sunday in his first time throwing off a mound in a week. He was skipped in the rotation last Friday to allow extra time to recover after sustaining the injury on July 2 against Houston.

7/3/2006

Millwood left the Rangers' 9-5 loss to Houston on Sunday night in the fourth inning with a strained right biceps. He'll be re-evaluated on Monday. He had allowed nine his and six runs in 3 2-3 innings, his second-shortest outing of the season.

5/14/2006

Millwood will start for the Rangers against the New York Yankees on Monday after his scheduled start at Boston was rained out on Sunday.

3/14/2006

Millwood has been bothered by a back ailment this spring. Reportedly the injury isn't serious, and the Texas right-hander has received a cortisone shot to get him on the mound more quickly. Millwood signed with the Rangers over the winter after posting an American League-best 2.86 ERA with a 9-11 record for the Cleveland Indians.

12/28/2005

Millwood has agreed to a five-year, $60 million contract with the Texas Rangers. He led the American League in ERA last year, posting a 2.86 mark with a 9-11 record for the Cleveland Indians.

10/29/2005

Millwood, who led the American League in ERA this past season, filed for free agency on Friday. The pitcher went just 9-11 in 30 starts for the Indians in 2005 despite posting a league-best 2.86 ERA.

8/5/2005

Millwood was suspended for five games Friday for intentionally hitting a batter during a game against the Seattle Mariners last week. The Cleveland righthander, who is 5-9 with a 3.12 ERA this season, would begin serving his suspension on Friday unless he files an appeal.

Plagued by poor run support all season, Millwood returned from the disabled list Thursday and claimed just his second win of 2005. Still, the Cleveland righthander didn't get a boatload of runs. He worked five scoreless frames in his return from a strained right groin, allowing four hits, two walks and striking out five. He left with a two-run lead and the Indians held on for a 2-1 victory.

6/16/2005

The Cleveland Indians activated Millwood from the disabled list Wednesday, following their fifth straight win and eighth in their last nine contests. The 30-year-old righthander will try to extend the streak to six games against the Colorado Rockies on Thursday night. To make room for Millwood, the Indians optioned righthander Jason Davis to Triple-A Buffalo.

6/7/2005

Millwood, on the disabled list with a strained right groin since May 26, is getting close to returning. He could rejoin the Cleveland rotation on Friday, when the Indians begin an interleague series with the San Francisco Giants. If Millwood isn't quite ready, the Indians probably will give Jason Davis another start in his place.

In Cleveland's 3-2 victory over Minnesota on Wednesday night, Millwood removed himself in the fifth inning after injuring his groin on what turned out to be his third-to-last pitch. While the Cleveland righthander said he didn't feel or hear a pop in the groin when he felt the muscle bite, he will have an MRI exam on Thursday. Manager Eric Wedge deemed Millwood's injury as "considerable," and said there's a possibility the righthander may go on the 15-day disabled list.

On Thursday, the Cleveland Indians placed Millwood on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right groin. The 30-year-old righthander was hurt while throwing a pitch in the fifth inning of Wednesday night's win over Minnesota. He tried to stay in the game, but couldn't push off the mound without pain and took himself out.

5/10/2005

On Monday against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Millwood turned in what was clearly his best start since blanking the Chicago White Sox for six innings on Opening Day. Cleveland's 30-year-old righthander limited the Angels to just one hit and fanned eight over eight scoreless innings to earn his first-ever American League victory, a 3-0 decision.

Millwood is 1-3 with a 3.38 ERA on the season. A lack of run support has limited his chances to earn wins.

4/6/2005

Making his regular-season debut with the Cleveland Indians, Millwood was solid in Wednesday's meeting with the Chicago White Sox, scattering four hits over six shutout innings. The righthander, who struck out one and walked two, was in line for the win until closer Bob Wickman gave up four runs in the bottom of the ninth, handing the victory to the White Sox.

Millwood was 9-6 with a 4.85 ERA for the Phillies last season, but was limited to 25 starts because of elbow and groin injuries. He hopes to avoid injury and get back on track in 2005. Wednesday's performance definitely was a good start.
