David Dellucci

4/2/2006

Dellucci was traded from the Texas Rangers to the Philadelphia Phillies Saturday in exchange for right-hander Robinson Tejeda and minor league outfielder Jake Blalock. Dellucci's acquisition gives Philadelphia five outfielders and completes the team's 25-man roster.

Dellucci still hasn't played since September 20 because of a strained calf muscle. The return of the Rangers' outfielder has been anticipated on a daily basis, and he still hopes to play before the season ends.

Dellucci still hasn't returned from a strained calf muscle that he suffered a week ago. The earliest he might return to the Texas lineup is Tuesday. The Rangers' outfielder remains day-to-day.

Dellucci didn't play in Texas' 6-5 loss to the Angels on Wednesday because of a strained calf muscle. The Rangers' outfielder may not return until the weekend. The leadoff man is hitting .251 with a .368 on-base percentage, 28 home runs and 95 runs scored in 124 games.

Dellucci hit a solo home run to right center in the third inning of Wednesday's loss to the Boston Red Sox before adding a two-run shot in the seventh, notching the fourth multihomer game of his major league career. With 17 homers this season, the Rangers' designated hitter/outfielder already has matched his career high. Over his last seven games, Dellucci is 10-for-28 (.357) with five home runs, seven RBI, seven walks and 11 runs scored.

As the Rangers' primary designated hitter, Dellucci may be squeezed for playing time this week, with Texas playing interleague series in Philadelphia and Florida. Dellucci is batting .268 with nine home runs and 21 RBI this season. Also serving as the Rangers' leadoff hitter for most of the year, he has scored 39 runs in 47 games.
