Cory Lidle

8/29/2005

Lidle couldn't avoid a trip to the disabled list. The Philadelphia Phillies put the 33-year-old righthander on the DL Sunday with a muscle strain in his left side. He is 9-10 with a 4.75 ERA and one complete game in 26 starts this season.

According to Phillies manager Charlie Manuel, Lidle likely will miss up to two weeks after straining a muscle in his left side in Wednesday's victory over the San Francisco Giants. He will receive treatment and be evaluated on a daily basis. In 26 starts this season, Lidle is 9-10 with a 4.75 ERA and one complete game.

After leaving the team over the weekend to tend to some personal issues, Lidle was back on the mound for Monday's meeting with the Houston Astros. The righthander lasted just five innings in the 7-1 loss, allowing seven runs -- five earned -- on seven hits, including five home runs. He struck out two and did not walk a batter.

Lidle has left the Philadelphia Phillies to tend to some personal issues, but the team is hopeful that he will be back in time to make his scheduled start against the Houston Astros on Monday. Specifics were not released, but the righthander obviously has been bothered by something recently, giving up 14 runs on 19 hits in his last two starts (7.1 innings).

Lidle notched his first complete game of the 2005 campaign and 11th of his major league career, going the distance in Sunday's 7-2 victory over the Baltimore Orioles. The Phillies' righthander surrendered just two runs on six hits, and finished with four strikeouts and one walk.
