DeJean is expected to have season-ending arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder that would keep him sidelined for six to eight months. The Colorado Rockies reliever may have the surgery as soon as Wednesday after treatment that began after he was placed on the 15-day disabled list on April 12 failed to help. DeJean was 1-0 and did not allow any runs in 1 2-3 innings in two appearances this year.

DeJean was placed on the 15-day disabled list by the Rockies on Tuesday with discomfort in his right shoulder. DeJean will have an MRI on Wednesday in Denver, manager Clint Hurdle said. The 35-year-old Colorado reliever is 1-0 in two appearances this season and 30-33 with a 4.30 ERA in his 10-year career.

DeJean will return to the Colorado Rockies next season, agreeing to a one-year contract with a mutual option for the 2007 campaign. The 35-year-old veteran posted a 3.19 ERA in 38 games for the Rockies as closer Brian Fuentes' primary setup man. He joined Colorado in early July, after posting a 6.31 ERA in 28 games for the Mets and getting released in late June.

DeJean is close to re-signing with the Colorado Rockies for 2006. The righthanded reliever has agreed to a one-year deal that is expected to pay him $1.15 million in base salary with incentives. DeJean has found a new home, signing a one-year contract with the Colorado Rockies, joining his fifth team in four seasons. The veteran righthander began the 2005 campaign with the New York Mets, but was released last month after going 3-1 with a 6.31 ERA in 28 relief appearances. Righthander David Cortes was optioned to Triple-A Colorado Springs to open a roster spot.

DeJean has been released by the New York Mets, opening a spot on the roster for fellow reliever Dae-Sung Koo, who was activated from the 15-day disabled list on Monday. The struggling righthander had surrendered seven runs on eight hits in his last 3.2 innings of work.
