Ricardo Rincon

5/10/2006

Rincon has told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that he will have surgery on his pitching elbow and shoulder this week. The procedures will end his 2006 season. Rincon pitched only 3 1/3 innings before he was sidelined with discomfort that occurred when he moved his throwing arm behind his head to throw. He allowed four runs and posted a 10.80 ERA in five appearances. His arm didn't improve during a rehab stint.

The St. Louis Cardinals placed Rincon on the 15-day disabled list Friday with a shoulder injury. The left-handed reliever hasn't pitched since April 18. He has a 10.80 ERA in five relief appearances.

Rincon has agreed to a two-year, $2.9 million contract with the St. Louis Cardinals. In 67 relief appearances with the Oakland Athletics in 2005, he posted a 4.34 ERA over 37.1 innings.
