Bobby Abreu

7/31/2006

The New Yankees acquired Abreu from the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday. Desperate and a productive bat in their depleted outfield, the Yankees took on Abreu's hefty contract, hoping the two-time All-Star right fielder can help them catch first-place Boston in the AL East.

Abreu took a Mark Prior pitch deep in the first inning of Thursday's victory over the Chicago Cubs to notch the fifth grand slam of his major league career. The Phillies' outfielder, who won the Home Run Derby at the All-Star break last month, had had failed to clear the fence since July 4, a 25-game homerless streak.

In 71 swings over three rounds, Abreu belted a record 41 homers in Monday's Home Run Derby to take home the title. The Phillies' outfielder belted 24 longballs in the first round of the contest, shattering the former single-round mark of 15, set by Baltimore's Miguel Tejada in 2004. Abreu's longest homer also came in the first round, a 517-foot shot nailed to right field.

Abreu recorded the fourth grand slam of his major league career, sending a Dave Williams pitch over the right-field wall in the third inning of Monday's victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Phillies' outfielder added an RBI single later in the game to finish the day 2-for-4 with five RBI and two runs scored.

Abreu extended his current hitting streak to 11 games, going 2-for-4 in Wednesday's loss to the St. Louis Cardinals. The Phillies' outfielder has posted eight multihit games over that span, batting .553 with nine home runs, 18 RBI, nine walks and two stolen bases.

Abreu went 2-for-3 with a walk and home run in Sunday's win over the Cincinnati Reds, extending his current hit streak to nine games. Over that span, the Phillies' outfielder has been nearly unstoppable, notching seven multihit games and batting .581 with four doubles, seven home runs, 13 RBI, nine runs scored and two stolen bases.

Abreu has homered in seven of his last eight games. Although he likely won't keep up his scorching pace all season, Abreu is a must-start in all fantasy leagues, as he contributes in nearly every category.

5/15/2005

After just missing his sixth home run in six games on Friday night, Abreu started a new streak by homering for the sixth time in seven games on Saturday. Abreu has been the hottest hitter in baseball the past week and has his batting average up to .323 to go along with nine home runs and 26 RBI.

5/13/2005

Abreu cleared the wall yet again in Thursday's loss to the Cincinnati Reds, extending his home-run streak to five games. In 24 contests in April, the Phillies outfielder hit .261 with one home run and seven RBI. This month, he has played in half as many games to date, but is batting .425 with seven homers and 15 RBI.

In addition to his eight home runs and 22 RBI, Abreu has posted 10 stolen bases in 36 games on the year. He has scored 24 runs and currently claims a .437 on-base percentage. Obviously, Abreu is a must-start in all fantasy formats.

5/11/2005

Abreu went 2-for-3 in Tuesday's loss to the Milwaukee Brewers, extending his multihit-games streak to four. The outfielder, who also has belted a home run in each of his last three contests, is batting .394 with five homers, 12 RBI and three stolen bases in 10 games this month.

Abreu posts solid totals in nearly every fantasy category. After a slow start to the 2005 campaign, he now is hitting .298 with six homers, 19 RBI and 10 stolen bases in 34 games.

4/12/2005

With a single and double in Monday's win over the Florida Marlins, Abreu extended his multihit games streak to four. The Phillies' outfielder, who also stole three bases in Monday's contest, is batting .313 with one home run, five RBI and three steals in seven games this season.

Abreu can do it all. Last year, he hit .301 with 30 homers, 105 RBI, 118 runs scored and 40 stolen bases in 159 games. As long as he stays healthy, expect similar -- if not better -- numbers in 2005.
