Raul Ibanez

6/5/2006

Ibanez did not play in Seattle's game on Sunday against the Kansas City Royal because of flu-like symptoms. It was the first time the Mariners left fielder had not played since Sept. 8, 2004, which spans 244 games. He is batting .274 with 38 RBIs.

Ibanez reportedly agreed to terms on a two-year, $11 million contract extension. The Seattle Mariners' left fielder had 92 runs and 89 RBIs in 2005.

With three hits and two RBI in Seattle's 11-4 win over the New York Mets Sunday, Ibanez has hit safely in 17 of his last 19 games. In that 19-game stretch, the Mariners' designated hitter is batting .382 (29-for-76) with 12 runs scored and 13 RBI.

Ibanez will have to move to the outfield to get at-bats this week, as Seattle will play interleague series in Florida and Washington. The Mariners' DH should get some time in left field. Ibanez is hitting .303 with seven homers and 28 RBI this season.
