Batista was released by the Twins on Monday after being designated for assignment on June 13. The 32-year-old third baseman hit .236 with 21 RBIs in 50 games for Minnesota this season and struggled on defense. The two-time All-Star played last season in Japan following nine seasons in the majors.

Batista agreed to a one-year contract with the Minnesota Twins on Thursday after spending last season playing in Japan. The two-time all-star last played in the Major Leagues with Montreal in 2004.
