Ramiro Mendoza

4/18/2006

Mendoza, who is rehabbing from shoulder surgery early in 2005, is working on building up his arm strength. The veteran right-hander is scheduled to pitch in an extended spring game Wednesday in the Yankees' camp.

Mendoza, who underwent shoulder surgery in January, was recalled by the New York Yankees on Thursday. The long-time Yankees setup man will make his 2005 debut in September.

Mendoza is inching closer to a return to major league action, following shoulder surgery in January. The veteran reliever, who has returned to the New York Yankees, allowed one unearned run and two hits in two innings for the rookie-level Gulf Coast League Yankees in his second minor league rehab start. He gave up one hit over three scoreless innings in a GCL game last Friday. Mendoza could rejoin the Yankees' bullpen later in August.

Mendoza is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Tuesday, which would be the first time the reliever will throw off a mound since undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his pitching shoulder in January.
