Bill Mueller

5/17/2006

Mueller has undergone arthroscopic surgery on his right knee, and the Los Angeles Daily News reports the procedure went smoothly. The newspaper says the Dodgers' third baseman is expected to miss about five weeks.

5/6/2006

Mueller, the only Dodger to appear in each of the team's first 29 games, sat out for the first time Friday because of a sore right knee that is expected to sideline him at least another 3-4 days.

The Los Angeles Dodgers and Mueller have come to terms on a two-year deal worth roughly $9.5 million. The third baseman is reuniting with his former manager in Boston (new Dodgers skipper Grady Little) and a former assistant GM with San Francisco (new GM Ned Colletti). With Boston in 2005, Mueller batted .295 with 34 doubles, 10 homers and 62 RBIs in 150 games.

Mueller was in the Boston lineup Wednesday night, roughly 24 hours after he left in the ninth inning Tuesday, when he was hit on the left foot with a pitch. The Red Sox' third baseman said he felt good on Wednesday, much better than the injury looked. He went 1-for-2 with a walk in Boston's 6-1 loss to Toronto.

Mueller left Boston's Tuesday night game against Toronto in the ninth, after being hit on the left foot by a pitch. X-rays were negative, and Mueller said he expected to play Wednesday against the Jays. The third baseman is hitting .293 with a .405 on-base percentage and 19 runs scored in 37 games for the Red Sox.

Mueller and the Boston Red Sox decided to keep the third baseman on the sidelines for one more day, scratching him from the lineup card for Monday's loss to Baltimore. Mueller has been battling the flu and a sinus infection, and he hopes to feel well enough to play on Tuesday.

Mueller appeared as a pinch-hitter in the ninth inning of Monday's loss, but struck out swinging. He is batting .234 with three doubles, two RBI and no home runs in 15 games.

Mueller has nearly recovered from his bout with the flu and a sinus infection, and he should be back in the Red Sox' lineup for Monday's matchup with the Baltimore Orioles. The third baseman, who could have played on Sunday, but decided to give it another day, has been sidelined since last Wednesday.

Mueller has struggled so far this season, batting .239 with three doubles, two RBI and no home runs in 14 games.

Mueller sat out Boston's win on Thursday with a sinus infection. The Red Sox' third baseman sat out a game earlier in the week, for what was reported as flu-like symptoms, so it's likely the two days off were for the same reason.

Perhaps the time off is good for Mueller, who has struggled in the early going. He is hitting just .239 with no homers and two RBI, though he has managed to score nine runs in 14 games.
