Hatteberg got a one-year contract extension on Wednesday that will pay him at least $1.65 million. The Reds' first baseman will earn a $1.5 base salary next season. His contract includes a club option for 2008 at $1.85 million, with a $150,000 buyout.

Hatteberg was back in Oakland's lineup Saturday after missing the previous six games with a strained right rib cage.

Hatteberg did some hitting Wednesday, the day after he was a late scratch for a nagging oblique injury. The Oakland DH-first baseman won't play on Thursday, but the door is open for a Friday return, when the A's host Minnesota. If Hatteberg can't play on Friday night, he becomes a candidate for the disabled list. He is hitting .280 with five home runs and 47 RBI in 94 games this season.
