C.J. Nitkowski

6/9/2005

Roughly two weeks after his release by Pittsburgh and his quick signing by Washington, Nitkowski was outrighted to Triple-A New Orleans by the Nationals Wednesday. Although he was the only lefthander on the Washington roster, the 32-year-old veteran was sent down after posting an 8.10 ERA in seven relief appearances since joining the Nats on May 27.

Shortly after being released by the Pittsburgh Pirates, Nitkowski has signed a one-year contract with the Washington Nationals. The lefthander had been pitching for the Pirates' Triple-A affiliate in Indianapolis, going 2-0 with a 0.83 ERA and three saves in 19 appearances. Zach Day was designated for assignment to make room on the Nationals' roster for Nitkowski.
