Grudzielanek suffered a mild ankle sprain in a collision at first base on Tuesday night, but the Cardinals' second baseman has experienced a minimal amount of swelling. He expects to be in the St. Louis lineup Wednesday night in Cincinnati.

Grudzielanek has been responding to treatment and medication, and he should return to the Cardinals' lineup by the end of the week, according to manager Tony La Russa. The second baseman has been sidelined since Saturday with an infection in his left knee.

According to Cardinals manager Tony La Russa, Grudzielanek will miss at least a couple of games, due to an infection in his left knee. The second baseman spent Saturday night in the hospital getting treatment for the ailment, and he won't travel with the team for the start of their four-game series against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

In the Cardinals' 8-4 victory over Milwaukee on Monday, Grudzielanek went 3-for-5 with a home run and a career-high five RBI. The second basemen hit a solo home run in the second inning, doubled in two runs in the fourth inning, and then plated two more runs with a single in the ninth to finish the evening.

Batting leadoff in Wednesday's meeting with the Milwaukee Brewers, Grudzielanek went 4-for-5 with two RBI and three runs scored. The Cardinals' second baseman homered in his first at-bat, singled in the second inning, connected for an RBI double in the fourth and tripled in the sixth to hit for the cycle for the first time in his major league career.

Grudzielanek, who already has hit in five different spots in the Cardinals' batting order this year, has just two leadoff homers in 11 major league seasons. In 17 games during the current campaign, he is batting .312 with one home run and seven RBI.
