Antonio Osuna

5/12/2005

As anticipated, Osuna underwent arthroscopic surgery on his pitching shoulder on Thursday. The Nationals' righthander, who currently is on the 15-day disabled list, will not be allowed to start throwing for another six weeks. A timetable for his return to the team's bullpen has not been set.

Prior to landing on the DL, Osuna had allowed 11 runs in just 2.1 innings of work this season, resulting in a 42.43 ERA.

Osuna is scheduled to undergo arthroscopic surgery on May 12 to repair damage in his troublesome pitching shoulder. The Nationals' righthander, who has been sidelined for nearly a month already, will be out indefinitely. Prior to landing on the 15-day disabled list, he had allowed 11 runs in just 2.1 innings of work this season, resulting in a 42.43 ERA.

Osuna did some throwing over the weekend, but because of continued discomfort and inflammation in his pitching shoulder, he has been placed on the 15-day disabled list by the Washington Nationals, retroactive to April 11. The righthander, who has not seen game action in more than a week, will be replaced on the roster by Gary Majewski.

Osuna has been lit up in four relief appearances this season, allowing 11 runs on nine hits -- including two home runs -- and seven walks in 2.1 innings. The Nationals will keep him sidelined until he can throw pain-free.
