Lima was designated for assignment on Friday after he made an emergency start in place of the injured Pedro Martinez. Lima threw three-plus innings before departing New York's 7-3 loss to Florida, giving up seven runs and seven hits. He has an ERA of 9.87 in four starts with the Mets.

The Mets purchased Lima's contract from Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday and optioned reliever Heath Bell to their top farm club.

The New York Mets designated Lima for assignment Friday after just three starts. The 33-year-old right-hander was 0-3 with an 8.79 ERA this season.

Lima agreed to a minor league contract with the New York Mets Tuesday and will receive a $600,000, one-year contract if added to the 40-man roster. The 33-year-old right-hander went 5-16 with a 6.99 ERA last season in 32 starts for the Kansas City Royals.

Lima was rocked for the second straight outing Saturday against the Angels. The Kansas City righthander lasted just 3.2 innings and gave up eight hits and seven runs, though only three of those runs were earned. This after Lima lasted just three inning in the Royals' Opening Day loss to Detroit. Opponents are hitting .412 off Lima through those first two games.
