Kelly Stinnett

11/30/2005

The New York Yankees have signed Stinnett to a one-year, $650,000 contract for 2006. The 35-year-old veteran, who will replace John Flaherty as the Yankees' backup catcher, batted .248 with six home runs and 12 RBIs in 129 at-bats with Arizona last season.

Stinnett has been activated from the 15-day disabled list by the Arizona Diamondbacks in time for the start of Tuesday's game against the Florida Marlins. The catcher had been sidelined since straining a tendon in his left wrist on a checked swing in a game against the Marlins on July 18. He will split time behind the plate with Chris Snyder and Koyie Hill.

Stinnett strained a tendon in his left wrist on a checked swing in the eighth inning of Monday's game against the Florida Marlins, and the injury has landed him on the 15-day disabled list. The Diamondbacks' catcher will take at least five days off before being re-evaluated. Koyie Hill has been recalled to fill the void on the roster.

The Diamondbacks purchased Stinnett's contract from Triple-A Tucson, swapping spots in the Arizona organization with Koyie Hill.
