Kevin Jarvis

6/19/2006

Jarvis was designated for assignment by Arizona on Monday after giving up eight runs and nine hits over five innings in an 8-4 loss to Texas on Saturday. The 36-year-old right-hander was 0-1 with an 11.91 ERA in five appearances for the Diamondbacks this season.

The St. Louis Cardinals have optioned Jarvis back to Triple-A Memphis, where he was 2-0 with a 0.78 ERA in four starts earlier this season prior to being called up late last month. The righthander struggled in four relief appearances with the Cards, going 0-1 with a 13.50 ERA.

To fill the void on the roster and in the bullpen, the Cardinals have purchased the contract of veteran lefthander Gabe White.

With the St. Louis Cardinals in the middle of a four-week stretch without a day off, the team recalled Jarvis to bolster the bullpen. As a starter at Memphis, the 35-year-old righthander was 2-0 with a 0.78 ERA in four starts.

Jarvis was the last player cut by the Cardinals at the end of spring training, but now he'll get his chance to help the big league club. He may not be available to work until the weekend after throwing more than 100 pitches in a Tuesday start for Memphis.
