Brian Anderson

7/20/2005

Anderson is debating whether to have surgery for the elbow ailment that has ended his 2005 season. It wouldn't be Tommy John surgery. Instead, it would be an exploratory procedure to get a better look at what ails the Royals' lefthander. Anderson also is weighing a number of non-surgical options to rehab his elbow.

7/11/2005

Anderson was forced to leave his minor league rehab start with Triple-A Omaha on Saturday night after aggravating his troublesome pitching elbow. The lefthander, who had been slated to rejoin the Kansas City Royals' starting rotation after the All-Star break, now could miss the rest of the season. Anderson said he plans to travel to Los Angeles later this week and be evaluated by specialist Dr. Lewis Yocum to determine if surgery is necessary.

In his first minor league rehab start for an elbow injury, Anderson allowed five hits and two runs in 1.1 innings for Double-A Wichita on Monday. The results weren't anything to get excited about, but the Royals were pleased that the lefthander came away healthy and ready to proceed with his rehab. He'll make his next rehab start at the end of the week for Triple-A Omaha.

Anderson looked good during a throwing session on Saturday, and the Kansas City Royals have decided to accelerate his rehabilitation schedule. The 33-year-old lefthander is now scheduled to throw live batting practice Tuesday for the first time since leaving a May 8 start in Baltimore because of an inflamed elbow. Anderson is expected to begin a three-start rehab assignment July 4 at Double-A Wichita. He then would work rehab starts July 9 and July 14 at Omaha.

To make room on their 40-man roster, the Royals moved Anderson to the 60-day DL on Saturday. The lefthander has not pitched since May 8 due to inflamation in his pitching elbow. The team still hopes he will be able to return shortly after the All-Star break.

6/2/2005

Anderson, who last pitched for Kansas City on May 8 in Baltimore, will start a tossing program next week. The 33-year-old lefthander has been inactive for most of the last month, resting an elbow that was prone to tightness throughout the spring. The Royals are targeting mid-July for the lefthander's return. Don't look for Anderson before the All-Star break.

Anderson has rested his arm for two weeks after going on the disabled list May 9 for tightness in his throwing elbow. After two throwing sessions in recent days, the Royals' lefthander will be examined by Dr. Lewis Yocum this weekend.

The plan for Anderson, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list on May 9 for tightness in his throwing elbow, is to rest. The Royals' southpaw said he's been experiencing elbow stiffness for some time, but it was only in his last outing that he couldn't continue pitching.

When Anderson will begin throwing again hasn't been revealed. Look for updates on his condition.

On Monday, the Kansas City Royals placed Anderson on the 15-day disabled list after he left his Sunday start because of tightness in his pitching elbow. He is in Kansas City to be examined by team doctors. Anderson is 1-2 with a 6.75 ERA in six starts this season.

Taking Anderson's spot on the 25-man roster is Leo Nunez, who pitched in low Class-A ball in 2004 and was 1-0 with a 1.80 ERA in three relief appearances this season for Double-A Wichita.

5/9/2005

Anderson left his Sunday start for the Kansas City Royals after two innings because of tightness in his pitching elbow. The Royals' lefty will fly to Kansas City to be examined by team doctors on Monday.

Anderson experienced some stiffness in his elbow during spring training, while undergoing a few minor tweaks to his mechanics, but the 33-year-old southpaw has been healthy during the regular season. He is 1-2 with a hefty 6.75 ERA in six starts.
