Manny Ramirez

8/14/2006

Ramirez's 27-game hitting streak which ended Sunday was the sixth longest in team history. Dom DiMaggio set the team record of 34 in 1949.

Boston's Ramirez will miss the All-Star game because of a sore right knee. Ramirez was selected to his 10th All-Star team on Sunday as the starting left fielder for the American League, but was replaced on the team Friday by Detroit's Magglio Ordonez.

Boston's Ramirez was selected to his 10th All-Star team on Sunday, as the starting left fielder for the American League. Ramirez is batting .309 with 22 homers and 60 RBIs this season.

7/2/2006

Ramirez got the 2,000th hit of his career on Saturday night with a three-run homer against the Florida Marlins in Boston's 11-5 victory. He also had a two-run homer in the sixth, giving him 129 RBIs in interleague play, two behind Carlos Delgado for the most all-time.

5/28/2006

Ramirez missed his second consecutive game for the Red Sox on Sunday, after being hampered by back and right knee injuries. There is no timetable for his return, as the Red Sox open a three-game series with the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday.

Manny's back. Ramirez showed up at Boston's spring training camp Wednesday, the day the Red Sox said was the slugger's adjusted reporting date. His arrival in Florida ends speculation that Ramirez might stay away from camp after requesting a trade during the offseason. The Red Sox say they did not receive an adequate offer for their star player.

2/22/2006

Ramirez has been given permission to report to Boston's spring training camp on March 1, six days after the team's first full-squad workout and one day after the league's mandatory reporting date. The Red Sox's outfielder, who hit .292 last season with 45 home runs and 144 RBIs, asked the team through his agent to trade him during the offseason. However, Boston was unable to find a deal to its liking.

10/29/2005

Ramirez has told Red Sox owner John Henry that he wants to be traded and will not report to spring training if he isn't dealt. Ramirez has the right to veto any possible deal. The outfielder hit .292 with 45 home runs and 144 RBI in 2005.

It's possible Ramirez could be back in the Boston lineup Friday night, when the Red Sox will be playing in Minnesota. The Red Sox' left fielder is fine in terms of his tender ribs and his nose. The only issue is one of his eyes. It's very red, possibly because of some blood buildup there, which has blurred his vision. If he is seeing fine by game time, Ramirez should be on the Metrodome turf for Friday night's contest.

8/4/2005

Ramirez and teammate Edgar Renteria collided in the outfield while chasing a flyball in the second inning of Boston's 8-5 win over Kansas City on Wednesday. Ramirez departed after suffering contusions to the right side of his chest and right cheek in the collision. His departure also came after he stroked a three-run homer in the bottom of the first, giving the Red Sox a 3-0 edge.

7/28/2005

Wednesday was a pre-arranged day off for Ramirez, but after Trot Nixon had to go on the disabled list for an oblique injury, Boston manager Terry Francona approached Ramirez about his lineup issues after Tuesday night's game. Ramirez maintained he still needed the day off, so on Wednesday, Francona inserted Kevin Millar into left field and started rookie Adam Stern in right.

7/22/2005

After pulling himself out of Wednesday's win over Tampa Bay with a tight hamstring, Ramirez was back in the Boston lineup Thursday night against the White Sox. After White Sox third baseman Joe Crede dropped a foul ball off his bat in the ninth inning, the Red Sox' left fielder stroked a game-winning home run off reliever Luis Vizcaino for a 6-5 victory.

7/21/2005

Pulling himself out of the game, Ramirez left with a tight hamstring during the fourth inning of Boston's win over Tampa Bay on Wednesday. His status is uncertain for the Red Sox' four-game series with Chicago, which begins Thursday night.

7/6/2005

In Boston's 7-4 victory over Texas Tuesday, Ramirez stroked his third grand slam of 2005 to give him 20 slams over 13 big league seasons. The Red Sox' left fielder jumped over Eddie Murray (19) on the all-time list, and now the only major leaguer with more slams is Lou Gehrig with 23.

6/20/2005

Ramirez was hit just above the left ankle by a pitch from Pittsburgh's Dave Williams in Boston's loss on Saturday, and the Red Sox' star wasn't in the lineup for Sunday's series finale against the Pirates.

5/16/2005

On Sunday, Ramirez became the 39th player in major league history to reach 400 home runs with a three-run bomb in Boston's 5-4 loss to Seattle. In the fifth inning, he hit a 1-1 fastball from Seattle starter Gil Meche an estimated 404 feet into the seats in right-center field.

For the season, Ramirez is batting .248 with 10 homers and 34 RBI.

Ramirez took an 81-MPH breaking pitch off the batting helmet during the first inning of Boston's 13-5 win over Oakland on Monday night. The Red Sox' outfielder left the game, but did not go to a hospital. While Ramirez was a bit woozy from the beaning, Boston skipper Terry Francona said he didn't display concussion symptoms.

Ramirez will be checked again on Tuesday by Oakland medical personnel, but it appears the first-inning pitch off the helmet didn't do any significant damage. There's a decent chance Ramirez will be back in the Red Sox' lineup on Tuesday.

Ramirez is penciled into the Boston lineup Tuesday night, the day after he took an 81-MPH breaking pitch off the batting helmet. The Red Sox' outfielder will bat third against Oakland's Kirk Saarloos. Ramirez is batting .250 with seven home runs and 27 RBI in 31 games this season.

5/5/2005

Red Sox manager Terry Francona decided to give Ramirez the day off on Thursday after the outfielder slightly sprained his ankle the previous night. The move was precautionary, and the outfielder should be back in the lineup on Friday. Jay Payton got the starting nod in Ramirez' absence.

Although his batting average is a bit down, Ramirez is off to a solid start this season. He is hitting .265 with seven home runs, 27 RBI and one stolen base in 27 games.
