Raul Mondesi

6/10/2005

Designated for assignment by the Atlanta Braves on May 31, Mondesi was officially released on Friday. He is free to pursue big league employment elsewhere.

After losing his starting job over the weekend, Mondesi has been designated for assignment by the Atlanta Braves. The veteran outfielder has struggled this season, batting just .211 with four home runs and 17 RBI in 41 games. If Mondesi refuses a minor league assignment as expected, the club will have 10 days to trade or release him.

Mondesi has lost the starting job as the Braves' right fielder, and the Braves are giving him a few days to decide if he wants to stay on the team as a reserve. In 41 games this year, Mondesi is hitting .211 with four homers and 17 RBI in 142 at-bats.
