Damion Easley

9/16/2005

Easley had to be carted off the field on Friday night, when the Marlins' shortstop sprained his right ankle while going to take a cutoff throw. X-rays were negative, and Easley is listed as day-to-day. Rookie Robert Andino replaced Easley at shortstop.

Easley continues to play every day with starting shortstop Alex Gonzalez out with an elbow ailment. He's started 10 games in a row since September 5, mostly at short, and he's gone 11-for-36 (.306) with three doubles and six runs scored. For the season, the 35-year-old infielder is a .238 hitter with nine homers and 30 RBI in 99 games for the Marlins.
