Hammond was designated for assignment on Friday after going 1-1 with a 6.91 ERA in 29 appearances for Cincinnati this season. The veteran left-hander, who signed an $800,000, one-year deal with the Reds in December, gave up three runs in just one-third inning against Kansas City on Thursday.

Hammond inked an $800,000, one-year deal with the Reds on Tuesday. The 39-year-old left-hander adds depth to Cincinnati's bullpen. Hammond was 5-1 with a 3.84 ERA in 55 appearances for the Padres last season. He held left-handed batters to a .164 average.

Hammond has been activated from the 15-day disabled list by the San Diego Padres after missing nearly three weeks with a strained neck. The 39-year-old lefthander, who takes the roster spot of starter Adam Eaton, is 5-1 with a 2.96 ERA in 37 relief appearances this season.
