Scott Erickson

6/19/2006

Erickson was released by the New York Yankees on Monday after he was designated for assignment on June 11. The 38-year-old right-hander was 0-0 with a 7.94 ERA in nine relief appearances for the Yankees this season.

The Los Angeles Dodgers designated Erickson for assignment Friday. The veteran righthander pitched in the Dodgers' rotation early in the season, but he struggled and was moved to the bullpen. The numbers suggest he was faring better in July, but the Dodgers have cut him loose to make room for 21-year-old pitching prospect Jonathan Broxton.

Due to his continued struggles, Erickson will be moved to the bullpen, according to Dodgers manager Jim Tracy. The righthander, who has lost his last four decisions, is 1-4 with a 7.22 ERA in eight starts this season. He has just eight strikeouts in 38.2 innings of work and has allowed 17 walks and 10 home runs over that span.
