Mike Stanton

7/5/2006

Stanton made his 1,072nd appearance on Tuesday, breaking a tie with Dennis Eckersley for third place on the all-time list. Jesse Orosco is the career leader with 1,252 games pitched, followed by John Franco's 1,119.

Stanton signed a one-year, $1 million deal with the Washington Nationals.

9/29/2005

The Red Sox acquired Stanton from the Washington Nationals on Thursday for righthanded teenagers Rhys Taylor and Yader Peralta. The 38-year-old southpaw was 2-1 with a 3.58 ERA in 27.2 innings for the Nationals, following his release by the New York Yankees at the end of the first half. He was 1-2 with a 7.07 ERA for New York before the break.

Two days after he was released by the New York Yankees, Stanton agreed to terms with the Washington Nationals Wednesday. The 38-year-old lefthander, who will join the Nationals' bullpen, was 1-2 with a 7.07 ERA in 28 relief appearances for New York this season.

7/11/2005

After failing to find another team interested in Stanton's services, the New York Yankees have released the lefthander. The 38-year-old Stanton was designated for assignment late last month after going 1-2 with a 7.07 ERA in 28 relief appearances for New York this year.

6/30/2005

Stanton and fellow reliever Paul Quantrill have been designated for assignment, as the New York Yankees initiated a roster shakeup on Thursday. Both relievers were extremely effective in recent seasons, but have fallen on hard times in 2005. Stanton was 1-2 with a 7.07 ERA in 28 relief appearances for New York this year.
